Last night, just after 10pm, the Peekskill Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the area of the 400th block of Washington Street. While enroute, crews were updated by Peekskill Police on scene that the fire was on the 500th block of Dyckman Street. Upon arrival, crews encountered a fully involved detached garage fire, beginning to spread to a nearby garage and a vehicle. A 10-75 was transmitted to bring additional resources into the City to assist. Two hose lines were stretched to extinguish the fire and protect the nearby buildings. The fire was extinguished in 30 minutes, after a full collapse of the building of origin. Crews spent the next few hours overhauling the debris to ensure the fire was fully extinguished. The cause of the fire was ruled accidental. No injuries were reported and all units returned to service by 2am. Another special thanks to all of our neighboring agencies that responded to assist both at the scene, and covering the city for additional alarms. We always appreciate the help!
