On Wednesday, July 8th, we had a visit from US Congressman Mike Lawler. During the visit, the Congressman spent some time with the on-duty crew, and discussed issues concerning the New York State Fire Service, such as the retention and recruitment of volunteer firefighters, as well as long lead times and inflated pricing for new fire apparatus.

LT’s Ryne Sheridan, Kevin Ferris, Chris Rimm; FF’s James Howard, Marcos Suarez, David Brito, Hakeem Odeyinde, and Oliver Martell were awarded a Unit Citation for their actions in the extrication and resuscitation efforts the victim of a vehicle accident in August of 2025.

Structure Fire, Dyckman Street

Last night, just after 10pm, the Peekskill Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the area of the 400th block of Washington Street. While enroute, crews were updated by Peekskill Police on scene that the fire was on the 500th block of Dyckman Street. This week both Career and Volunteer members trained on master stream deployment and operations.
Master streams are fire suppression/water delivery appliance that have the capability of delivering over 300 gallons of water per minute. Firefighting Foam Operations was on this week’s schedule.
Water alone is not effective for extinguishing fires involving flammable liquids, as just water will splash the ignited liquid, and potentially spread the fire. Mixing water with a foam concentrate, creates a blanket over flammable liquids, smothering & extinguishing flames; as well and suppressing vapors, preventing ignition.
